Tamaris is committed to using alternative materials for shoe production that can help to protect our environment. The good news: nature already provides the essentials.

WHAT DOES “MADE WITH MUSHROOMS“ MEAN?

The innovative material HyphaLite™ TC, which is completely free from plastic, 100 % organic and biodegradable, is made from mushrooms that are not suitable for consumption and which are used together with natural rubber and cellulose fibres. Their stability and flexibility make this natural material predestined for shoe production. This contributes towards replacing petrochemical plastics and reducing global plastic waste.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF WATER-BASED PU AND ADHESIVES?

Water-based PU is produced without using any organic solvents. Unlike traditional PU production methods, no time-consuming process is required to wash away the solvent from the PU. This means significantly less water and energy consumption. We also exclusively use water-based adhesives for our Tamaris GreenStep collection. This protects the environment and improves the working conditions at production sites. At the same time, we don`t use any animal products such as gelatine, fish, skin and casein glue.

WHAT DOES “100 % VEGAN“ MEAN?

All of our vegan products are transparently certified as 100 % vegan by the PFI (Test and Research Institute in Pirmasens) using an external certification process. The PFI ensures that the upper material along with the adhesives and any other additives used to produce the shoe are completely free from components of an animal origin. What`s more, a third of the Tamaris collection features vegan styles among all of its shoe categories.

WHAT DOES THE “ECO LABEL“ MEAN?

Our sustainable GreenStep collection is produced in a factory in Portugal which has been certified with the PFI „eco label“ based on social and ecological criteria. This includes the environmental impact of the production sites as well as quality and chemical management.
