MEMBERSHIPS

The Leather Working Group (LWG) is a members' initiative that brings together brands, manufacturers, retailers, and leading technical experts from the leather industry, as well as other players. During the certification, it is not just the tanning process that is assessed. Standards and the transparency with regard to the works process, equipment and tanning facility, as well as the level of water consumption, are the most important aspects of the assessment. As such, the initiative provides us - and our end consumers - with a high level of security. Another objective of the Leather Working Group is to make conditions in tanneries and at intermediate distribution sites more transparent, and to implement sustainable change. This includes ensuring that manufacturers in the leather processing industry do not use potentially critical substances, and that water and energy consumption are reduced. In addition to this, occupational health & safety is regularly monitored. To this end, the Leather Working Group also developed an auditing protocol for sustainable and responsible leather production, which it has implemented for more than 10% of global leather production.
In addition to our GreenStep collection, numerous items from our range are produced in a factory in Portugal that is certified with the PFI "eco-label" for social and ecological aspects. This includes the environmental impact of the production facility as well as quality and chemical management.
All of our vegan products are transparently certified as 100 % vegan by the PFI (Test and Research Institute in Pirmasens) using an external certification process. The PFI ensures that the upper material along with the adhesives and any other additives used to produce the shoe are completely free from components of an animal origin. What`s more, a third of the Tamaris collection features vegan styles among all of its shoe categories.
Cads stands for Cooperation for Assuring Defined Standards for shoe and leather goods production. It has set itself the goal of ensuring the quality of shoes and leather goods, as well as awarding a quality label to shoes and leather goods, the quality of which has already been assured. In addition, cads works actively in close collaboration with our Head of Sustainability, on PR work for the manufacture and marketing of more sustainable, pollutant-free, environmentally-friendly shoes, shoe materials, and leather goods, manufactured while exercising social responsibility.
The Business Social Compliance Initiative (amfori BSCI) is an external trade and industry testing institution established with the objective of adhering to, monitoring and improving our employment and social requirements in production sites within an increasingly complex global supply chain. We have ourselves been members of amfori BSCI since 2019.
The HDS/L represents manufacturing companies within the shoe and leather goods industry, and advocates in favour of their interests with trade bodies, authorities, and legislators.
The NA 062-04-52 AA “Shoes" develops physical, chemical, and microbiological test standards and requirements for shoes, shoe components, and shoe adhesives.
Under the abbreviation B.A.U.M, the Bundesdeutsche Arbeitskreis für Umweltbewusstes Management e.V. (German Environmental Management Association) has been successfully combining economic, ecological, and social matters, i.e. the principles of sustainability, in a future-oriented manner. We were able to significantly reduce the energy requirement of our logistics centre through integral planning and the optimal utilisation of site factors.
